Fred L. Adams, 1937-2024

Fred L. Adams, November 12, 1937 – December 1, 2024

Fred was a loving husband, a caring father, granddad, and great-granddad. He loved spending time with Fran, his wife of 63 years, and all of his family. He was a devoted American Baptist Minister for over 50 years. He and Fran loved traveling and playing golf with friends and family.

Fred was born in Atlanta, GA, the oldest of two children of Annie (Harrelson) and Levie Adams.  He was a graduate of Baylor University in Waco, TX and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY, with a Doctor of Ministry from McCormick Theological Seminary.  His life mission was fulfilled through ministering.  He was the pastor at First Baptist Church, Salem, IN, the campus minister at Illinois State University and Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington/Normal, IL, the pastor at First Baptist Church, Jacksonville, IL, and an Area Minister for American Baptist Churches, Great Rivers Region. He will be remembered as an active member and leader at the Second Baptist Church of Greater St. Louis in Clayton, MO.

He and Fran loved to travel the world and would share their stories and adventures. New Zealand, Great Britain and Greece were some of their favorites. Fred liked hiking in the woods, hiking a portion of the Appalachian trail in his earlier life. He also loved spending time in nature and did that through spending time at their Innsbrook cabin (IBK), water color painting, tying flies, and fishing with them!

He is survived by his children, Cathy (Brad) Wallace, Al (Lisa) Adams, five grandchildren, Stu (Veronika) Wallace, Kyle (Carol) Wallace, Jake (Julie) Wallace, Will (Delaney) Adams, and Caroline (Jeremy Thieman) Adams. In addition, he is survived by four great-grandchildren who he adored.

A private celebration of life will be held with family. The family would like to thank the staff at Meramec Bluffs for the wonderful care they provided. As a service of the SCHRADER Funeral Home and Crematory, friends may sign the family’s on-line guestbook at Schrader.com.
